Postcards from Zimbabwe

I was inspired to create ‘Postcards from Zimbabwe’ when I visited Africa as a tourist. The subject matter of these three artworks is the affected children of a small town called Masvingo. The message of the postcards was to emphasise the reality of the desperate situation in Zimbabwe, where a corrupt regime had bankrupted the country consequently affecting the most vulnerable: the children. The message of ‘Postcards from Zimbabwe’ incorporates the symbolism of flight and freedom of the tourist compared to deprivation and hopelessness of the Zimbabwean children. The concept of the post card is that as a tourist I am free to go home however the children’s expressions depict the current situation of poverty and helplessness.
