The Chosen Two Together

Here I am exploring the two forms together both on paper and on Unreal Tournament 3. I think that it makes a really interesting and strong relationship. As the forms are quite different they interact with each other really well. I also tried to emphasise certain aspects and forms by using light which can be seen in the Unreal Tournament pictures below.

Pictures 3, 9 and 10 are my ideas which I am exploring for the interior cliff laboratory. I think the lights are quite successful in illuminating objects and they help elongate the thin protruding tunnels and give them more depth.

I decided to choose this picture because a main focus of my design is the use of shadows, lightness and darkness. The initial attraction to this picture was how I felt as if it symbolised and represented my design as it has similar concepts and themes. Like my design in this picture the image protrudes out of nature. I like the use of man-made objects using the natural environment to help create form and structure.

To best project different shadows and exemplify lightness and darkness I have found it is best to use parallel shapes that stick out and capture the suns rays. In this image I think it highlights similar aspects which I have tried to demonstrate in my design by using long narrow tunnels and large parallel beans that stick out into the air. I like how in this image the shadows are casted on each thin parallel bar and then the dark shadow that sets in the lower compartment of the inner ground area. This helps create dimension and reinforce form which I have found inspirational in trying to achieve for my own designs.

Conclusion: “With the penetrating mind of an inventor and scientist there are no limits to what one can build. The cloned sheep named Dolly is the perfect example who was first produced by culturing adult sheep mammary tissue.” The dynamism of human capabilities is both potentially profitable and dangerous.

My First Start Of Unreal Tournament

The two axonometric sketches which I decided to incorporate together are the two that follow.

The two sketches are inspired by Nobel and Campbell. The first sketch is inspired by Campbell and I think is a really powerful looking figure. This will be out floating beside the cliff face. I cloned the two vertical rectangles which are sliced through by a horizontal floor. The use of these three squares creates a really firm, strong and interesting setting.

The second image I found to be really interesting as the simple protruding rectangles add quite an interesting dimension. I was inspired by Nobel and I have decided to use this as the laboratory inside the cliff face. Here I can use the protruding rectangles to puncture and penetrate the cliff side and continue even deeper into the cliff.

When combining the two its creates a harmonious relationship between the two figures as they support and counteract each other making a really interesting setting.

Keith Campbell

Keith Campbell: "The cloned sheep, named Dolly, was first produced by first culturing adult sheep mammary tissue (taken form the sheep's udder) in the laboratory."

The key word which I used from this quote was cloned. I found this an interesting word of inspiration, it is a simple concept of replicating the same objects to create a form. However it was harder and more fun then I thought and I think I was able to create some interesting sketches.

Axonometrics

Alfred Nobel: "Alfred Nobel combined the penetrating mind of a scientist and inventor with the dynamism of the industrialist."

The key words which have inspired me for these axonometrics sketches were penetrating and dynamism. I have tried using these words to create interesting cubes that interact and penetrate through each other to make interesting forms.

The inspiration

Final Images

Final Images

In this picture one can see the texture 'Fluid' on the main curved roof. However the main focus of this picture is the mountainous landscape surrounding the structure and the park and tables.

Here the textures are apparent. The main texture being 'Silk' which is pink and decorates the exhibition space and the stairs leading to the down stairs studio. 'Fluid' decorates the curved surfaces and 'Rigid' decorates the flat surfaces such as in the studio down stairs.

The materials to construct this building would consist mainly of concrete, stainless steel, wood, stone and glass. All these very different materials have created very different structures both above and below ground. The upstairs area highlights "Integral" as it structural piece is vital for the building to stand up.
The underground studio is surrounded by mountains and is white and curved like a skull, the word being "Cranium". the downstairs studio is constructed like a coffin under ground symbolic of the artwork.
